At Macro Text, we believe that your data is yours and yours alone. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information in connection with the Macro Text Chrome Extension (the "Extension").
1. Data Collection and Usage
Macro Text does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, browsing history, or user content to any external servers.
- No User Accounts: You do not need to create an account to use the Extension.
- No Analytics: We do not use third-party analytics (like Google Analytics) or tracking scripts.
- No Telemetry: We do not collect performance data or diagnostic logs from your device.
2. Data Storage and Security
All snippets, shortcuts, and configuration settings are stored locally on your device using your browser's local storage mechanisms (chrome.storage.local).
- Local-Only Storage: Your data never leaves your device. It is not synced to any cloud service by the Extension itself.
- Browser Sync: If you use Google's browser sync features, your Extension data may be synced across your own devices as part of your Google Account profile. This process is managed entirely by Google and is independent of Macro Text.
- Device Security: Because data is stored locally, we recommend using a secure, password-protected user profile on your operating system to protect your snippets from other users of the same device.
3. Browser Permissions
The Extension requires the following permissions to function:
- storage & unlimitedStorage: Used to save your shortcuts and snippets locally on your device.
- clipboardRead & clipboardWrite: Used to allow you to interact with your clipboard (e.g., copying a snippet to the clipboard or reading it for expansion).
- Access to All Websites (<all_urls>): Necessary for the Extension to detect your shortcuts and perform text expansion on the websites you visit.
4. Third-Party Services
Macro Text does not integrate with any third-party services. There are no advertisements, and no data is shared with or sold to third parties.
5. Children's Privacy
Because we do not collect any data, we do not knowingly or unknowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
6. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect product changes, legal requirements, or documentation improvements. The revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
